Dear Parents and Guardians;
Our Back to School Night was held last Thursday. While participation was low, those parents and students who attended were able to spend some time with their teachers, learn about the curriculum and plans for the year, and meet other parents. We encourage you to attend all school activities. Your participation is important in your child’s education. The CAA parents club needs you as well. Please see the calendar for upcoming events and activities as the year progresses.
Welcome - We have a new addition to our CAA family. Zoe Lane Schroeder made her appearance on Saturday, August 26. Proud parents are Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder.
PE/Health/Aerospace – We have been interviewing candidates for this position. We hope to have a permanent teacher in place by next week.
Senior Class Participation – On Saturday, the senior class was selected to help with the Aerospace Museum of California’s 6th annual BBQ on the Ramp. Our students helped to set up tables, serve, and clean up. A special thank you to those who helped: Mason C., Paul J., Caleb D., Nicole F., Catherine S., Zachery B., Brian S., and Vincenzo V.. A special thank you to Ms. Defer and Mr. Viani for supervising our students. The event was wonderful. CAA thanks Roxanne Yonn and the Museum for allowing our school to participate in this exciting adventure.
Picture Day – September 8 is school picture day. All students must wear their school uniform. Picture packet information is available at the school office. If you wish to purchase a school picture packet, please have your student stop by and get the information.
Prohibited School Items - Energy drinks are not allowed on campus. Please remind your students of this. Also, students should not bring permanent markers to school. Any such items will be confiscated. For the first offense, students make pick up such items after school. After that the items will need to be picked up by parents.
Dress Code – Again, most of our students are coming to school in the proper attire. Our first free dress day went well. We thank all parents who are working with us to make this happen. When students are dressed appropriately they tend to follow the rules and behave like young adults. Please remember that RED is never allowed on campus. There is still time to order CAA attire - polos, sweatshirts, or PE clothes. Please contact the parentsofcaa@gmail.comfor information.
Parent volunteers – We are still in need of parent volunteers to help supervise before school and during lunch time. We can’t begin to express our appreciation to Mr. Viani and Mrs. Birckelbaw for stepping up and assisting us every day. This is a great way for you to fulfill your parent hours. Please contact the office if you are interested in helping us and your students.
Counselors’ Corner:
The After School program is off to a great start this year with 7th graders enjoying Music Appreciation and 8th graders exploring Life Skills topics. We have added knitting to our craft class and would appreciate any donations of yarn.
Please remind your student that these 8th period Electives begin promptly at 2:30pm and appropriate classroom behavior is expected and required from each student. High school students who are not enrolled in the program must leave campus directly after school.

Dear Parents and Guardians;
Our first full week of school has been completed. Thank you for bearing with us as we balance your students’ schedules and make sure that all classes have the proper number of students. Our eighth grade is very large this year and we have worked hard to provide the best classroom atmosphere possible. On Monday, 8th grade students will meet in the cafeteria and get their new schedules as we continue to balance the classes. There will also be some changes to the high school schedules as well. We hope that parents will support us as we make these changes keeping your student’s needs in mind. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Good bye to Mr. Gomez – Friday was the last day for Mr. Gomez. He will be leaving us to move on to a position that will work better for him. We will greatly miss all that him and all that he has contributed to our school. Currently, we are in the process of interviewing for a new high school PE/health/and aerospace teacher. We hope to have someone in place very soon.
Another staffing change – Ms. Wyant, the long term substitute for Mrs. Schroeder, will no longer be with us as well. She has found a more permanent position. We welcome Ms. Olsen, who holds an English credential, has experience scoring CAHSEE tests, and is very excited about being at our school.
Dress Code – Again, most of our students are coming to school in the proper attire. We thank all parents who are working with us to make this happen. When students are dressed appropriately they tend to follow the rules and behave like young adults. If you still want to order a CAA polo, sweatshirt, or PE clothes, please contact the parentsofcaa@gmail.comfor information.
Safety and Security – As our school has expanded, safety and security are foremost on our minds. Due to our limited staff, it is impossible to keep a watchful eye on all entrances in the morning. Therefore, starting this Monday, all students will enter the building through the cafeteria door in the morning. Parents and students needing to access the school office will enter through the Perrin St. door (our front door). Students will not have access to the rest of the building until 8:00 AM or until staff is available. We want to be sure that our school and students continue to be safe and secure. Parents are requested to enter the school using the Perrin St. entrance at all times and not the north entrance (the former student entrance). If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact the school office.
Back to School Night – This Thursday, August 25, is our annual Back to School Night. The evening will begin with a short Parents of CAA meeting at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Parents will pick up their student’s schedules and attend 10 minutes classes, which will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. During the “lunch” period, parents will be directed to the cafeteria to learn about the fund raising opportunities available, vote for the open Parent Club offices, and submit nominations for the School Site Council. Be sure to visit your student’s Home Room and sign in. The Home Room that has the highest percentage of parents will receive a breakfast treat on Tuesday.
Free Dress Fridays – There was some confusion about free dress days and several students came to school on Friday in free dress. Free Dress Fridays are usually the LAST Friday of the month. Students will no longer get a free dress day for their birthday this year, but will be receiving a different birthday recognition from our wonderful Parents of CAA. See the list below for the Free Dress Days scheduled this year:
Free Dress Fridays: (Note: there is no free dress day in November) August 26, September 30, October 28, December 16, January 27, February 17, March 23, April 27, May 31
Can you help us? – Our sound system is not working. It seems like there is a problem with the microphone. If anyone can help us, we would greatly appreciate it. We desperately need the sound system at our Wednesday morning assemblies.
COUNSELORS’ CORNER:
The After School Program began last Monday. We have over 60 7th, 8th and 9th graders enrolled in the ASES program. The ASES staff has returned and we welcome David, Lisa, Brando, and Emily. They are excited about this new year and are ready to begin their Electives, Homework Club and Enrichment Activities. A healthy snack will be provided every day. Please arrive by5:45pm to pick up your student in front of the school. If you need to pick up your student early, a parent or guardian must come in to the school to sign the student out. Thank you!
