Graduation Requirements

Grading Policy

Grades are earned on a 4.0 point scale: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F=0. A class syllabus will be given out to students in each class during the first two weeks. Daily attendance, class assignments, class participation, homework, examinations and class conduct are all important in determining individual grades.

Report cards are mailed to parents/guardians quarterly. Students in danger of receiving a D or F in a course will be notified by mail mid-quarter.

Students have the option of obtaining Weekly Progress Reports, which provide a weekly update on student performance in each class and include information about homework, attendance, class participation and quality of assignments. Forms are available in the counseling office every Friday.   The student will fill out their name and submit the form to each of their teachers at the beginning of each class.   Each teacher will complete their portion of the form and return it to the student by the end of the period so that the student can submit the form to their next teacher. Weekly Progress Reports are by request only. Parents may request that their student use a Weekly Progress Report by contacting the school counselor.

Students in 7th and 8th grades must pass their required courses. Students who fail courses will be reviewed by a Promotion Review Team, consisting of the counselor, Principal, and teacher. Students who fail two or more academic required courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) will be required to make up the courses either during summer school or during the following school year. A student who fails two or more academic requirements may be retained in his/her current grade level.

Promotion for grades seven and eight will be based on demonstrating proficiency of class concepts. Academic acceleration will be provided during the school day as well as other opportunities to address areas of concern.

Students with two or more failing semester grades in core subjects (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) may be recommended for retention. Students who earn a final grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher in their core academic classes shall be promoted to the next grade level. Students earning less than 2.0 GPA but higher than 1.0 may be promoted but will be placed on an academic probation plan to meet the 2.0 GPA.
